Apply for an export certificate

Which export certificate do you need?

Use this service to apply for the following export certificates through the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).

Certificate of Free Sale

A Certificate of Free Sale:

  • helps exporters access certain overseas markets by declaring that goods meet the UK's high safety standards
  • covers a wide range of products, including cosmetic products

Certificate of Manufacture

A Certificate of Manufacture applies to pesticides that are made for export only and will not be placed on the UK market.

Certificate of Good Manufacturing Practice

A Certificate of Good Manufacturing Practice:

  • certifies that a cosmetic brand's products meet UK good manufacturing practice standards
  • only applies to cosmetic products exported to China

Products not covered by DBT

You will need to apply through another organisation if you want to export:

  • biocides or pesticides on free sale in the UK
  • medical devices
  • medicines for animals or humans
  • products for human or animal consumption, such as food, drinks or supplements

Before you start

GOV.UK One Login

You will be taken to GOV.UK One Login. Use your company email address to sign into GOV.UK One Login or create a new account.

Create an access request

Before you can apply for an export certificate, you need to create an access request and provide some basic information.

You will need to confirm:

  • your export details
  • which certificate you need
  • your company name and address
  • what the company does
  • the products you want to export
