Accessibility statement for Apply for an export certificate

This accessibility statement applies to the Apply for an export certificate service.

This service is run by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made content within the service as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this service are not fully accessible. Some users may experience difficulties:

  • using screen readers with some form controls and interactive elements
  • understanding some links and controls that are not sufficiently descriptive
  • understanding some page titles
  • accessing some PDF documents

Technical information about this website's accessibility

DBT is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliance issues listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content below reflects findings identified during the Digital Accessibility Centre (DAC) accessibility audit completed on 4 June 2026.

  1. Some form elements are not grouped correctly. This may be difficult for users of assistive technology to understand and interact with when navigating out of context. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.
  2. Some links are not descriptive of the destination or purpose, in or out of context. This makes it difficult for screen reader users navigating a page using links to understand the purpose or relationship of elements without the context of the surrounding elements. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context).
  3. Some page titles do not uniquely describe or introduce the page content. This means some users may not be able to tell what a page is about from its title. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 Page Titled.

We are working on resolving these issues and plan to make the necessary changes by December 2026.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
